The Production Company
The Production Company (Aust) Ltd is a not-for-profit theatrical company specifically to promote and showcase new and established theatre talent and to stimulate the Melbourne and Australian theatre industry. The Production Company stages a series of three musicals at the Arts Centre each year.
Since 1999, Melbourne has been serenaded by the The Production Company, celebrating the best of Broadway. Each season gives three glorious shows the chance to be staged in Melbourne at the beautiful State Theatre. We stage the works of such greats as Rodgers & Hammerstein, Irving Berlin, Cole Porter, Neil Simon and Jerry Herman.
Originally conceived as “concert versions” we rehearse for two weeks. The actors’ intimacy with the audience, the directors' creative staging, and the choreographers' dazzling contribution have grown each season. The casting mixes established stars with new talent. Artists such as Lisa McCune, Philip Gould, Marina Prior, John Diedrich, Caroline O’Connor and Ian Stenlake have worked alongside the cream of Melbourne’s young artists in each show.
Chairman Jeanne Pratt and her team engage the best local directors, choreographers and designers to stage the shows to best effect. Orchestra Victoria play the scores with maximum impact under our best conductors.
Twelve days of whirlwind rehearsal; one day of dress and media rehearsals; and five performances: The Production Company shows are thrilling and energetic.
We receive no government subsidy and rely solely on the Box Office proceeds and support of the corporate sector and individuals to exist.
